About Phong Nha Cave
The complex of Phong Nha – Ke Bang is 50km from northwest of Dong Hoi city – Quang Binh province. This complex is a part of the area of the oldest limestone mountains in Asia, which were taken shape 400 millions years ago. The beautiful grotto of Phong Nha is a part of World Natural Heritage Site. It has a depth of 13,000 meters with 14 large caves which are from 10 to 40 meters high. At the entrances are stalactiles that look like huge teeth. Deep inside the caves are stalactiles and stalagmites in various unusual shapes.

A pleasant, sleepy town, Phong Nha is nestled at the foot of a series of limestone cliffs in an otherwise flat region, 45 km to the northwest of Dong Hoi. The limestone massifs are similar to those seen on the Andaman coast of Thailand and mark are stark change in the geology of Vietnam as you pass from south to north.

The only reason to visit Phong Nha is to visit the Phong Nha cave system, but an overnight here makes sense if you have time in your schedule.
